The Cincinnati Bengals selected former Virginia linebacker Ahmad Brooks in the third round of the NFL Supplemental Draft.
Brooks was a three-year star with the Cavaliers and a former high school player of the year. He was dismissed from the team by Virginia head coach Al Groh for disciplinary reasons.
Brooks, a first-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference linebacker as a sophomore, was also a finalist for the Butkus Award given to the nation's top linebacker in 2004.But he played only six games last season because of injury, then was dropped by the team just before spring practice this year.
He joins an already strong Bengals linebacking crew that features Odell Thurman, David Pollack and Brian Simmons.
The reasons for his dismissal are not known. Six other players who applied for the supplemental draft were not chosen.
